Gifford MacShane perfectly captures a really tough period of Irish history with The Winds of Morning! It is 1848 and the Irish Potato Famine is in full swing, forcing Molly O’Brien to make some really hard choices in order to support her brothers. Despite the difficulties, Molly manages to find love in a harsh world geared against it. MacShane has an incredible gift for bringing the characters to life in a way that fully immersed me in the time period and Molly’s struggle! It was heartbreaking to see what Molly has to go through, but equally heartwarming to see her triumph. If you love realistic historic fiction with great characters and a dash of romance, definitely fly back to the past with The Winds of Morning!
