Originally, the author conceived Lightning in the Desert as a stand-alone short story following a particularly lucid dream she had after working on a website for an international non-profit agency whose work included protecting children in areas where child soldiers exist. She felt the story was powerful enough to share and liked the idea of releasing a bite-size (18-minute or 11 page) story that could be read or listened to in its entirety on a commute or one sitting. After feedback from the first readers and listeners, Ferrigan realized that the story deserved a more complete narrative. It took several years to find the voice and time to complete the series. Now, the second part, A Change in the Wind has been released and the final part in the series, The Specific Heat of Water is in process, scheduled to also be released in 2024.
