Contest Rules and Submission Guidelines

Contest Rules

  • All submissions must be submitted by April 1st each year.  Any stories submitted during the month of April will be considered for the following year’s contest.  Winners will be chosen and announced on May 1st of each year.

  • One winner will be chosen each year for a Golden Shrimpy.  They will receive $50 (USD) via Paypal OR a $50 (USD) Amazon gift card (whichever they prefer).  Their story, poem, or chapter will be displayed on the Shrimpy Award Contest page along with a blurb about the author and links to their page and other works.  They will also receive a Golden Shrimpy badge to display with their books and for other marketing purposes (along with mad bragging rights).

  • Two winners will be chosen each year for a Silver Shrimpy.  Their story, poem, or chapter will be displayed on the Shrimpy Award Contest page with links to their author pages and other works.  They will also receive a Silver Shrimpy badge to display with their books and for other marketing purposes (along with decent bragging rights).

  • Three winners will be chosen each year for a Bronze Shrimpy.  Their story, poem, or chapter will be mentioned on the Shrimpy Award Contest page with a link to their author page.  They will also receive a Bronze Shrimpy badge to display with their books and for other marketing purposes (and yes, they can still brag about it).

  • All submissions will carry over into the following years and be considered, even if they didn’t win in a previous year!

  • Submissions with adult themes might not be able to be displayed to the public depending on their content, but will still be considered.

  • Submitting something does not guarantee that you win anything.

  • All contest judgements are final and are entirely subjective.  Don’t worry, I love to read a vast variety of things!

Submission Guidelines

  • Stories, Poems, and Book Chapters of all genres are accepted!

  • You must buy one of my (Josh Grant’s) books in order to submit (they’re all $2.99 USD).  Links and descriptions are below (just click on the covers or go to the My Books tab).  You may wait until I’ve received your story before purchasing a book.  Purchasing one book qualifies you for all future Shrimpy Award Contests (you do not have to buy a new book every year)!  You do not have to send proof of purchase as Diabolic Shrimp is a community built on trust and kindness!

  • If you purchased one of my books in the past, that covers your submission purchase here!  Thank you for your kindness!

  • Submissions must be shorter than 20 pages (5,000 words).  If you slightly go over, that’s okay, but if you start to stray into the realm of 23 pages, the submission will be disqualified.

  • There is no minimal word or page requirement.

  • .Doc, .Docx, and .pdf files are all accepted.

  • All submissions must be in English.

  • You must own the material you submit.

  • Your submission carries over each year to the following year’s contest, even if it didn’t win in a prior contest!

  • You may withdraw or change your submission at any time and it will be considered.  Any submissions after April 1st will be considered for the following year.

  • You may only have one entry to the contest (you may change this entry at any time).  If you’d like to have multiple entries at one time, you must purchase one of my (Josh Grant’s) books for each additional entry (so 2 entries would mean buying two books, 3 would be three books, etc).
